I sat down with Ann Lathrop, a founding member of CUE, during a reception at the Spring CUE Conference in March 2018. Ann talks about the foundings of CUE and ISTE (NECC back then), and talks about the early days of educational software. My favorite moment is hearing the origin story of Oregon Trail and how it entered most elementary classrooms in the 1980s!
Among many other things, Ann Lathrop is Professor Emerita at Cal State Long Beach and co-author of the first book on educational software “Courseware in the Classroom.”
Joining me on this podcast is Elaine Wrenn, a fellow Apple Distinguished Educator and attendee of the CUE Founder’s Reception (where we both met Ann). If you want to read a bit more about Softswap, the 1982 book Informational technology and its impact on American Education chronicles the early days of CUE and educational software.
